Make the Most of Homemakeing and Tips shared by Older Titus 2 Women (Part 1)

I grew up in the era of Leave it to Beaver.

  • June Cleaver was always in a dress, with a cute apron.
  • She did her housework in shoes with heels and we thought nothing about it.
  • Not that we did our housework like that, but most women and young girls did wear dresses, especially if they were going to have guests, or be seen in public.

This struck me today as I continue to look for work I can do in about 15 minutes. I’m still dealing with a sinus infection and it has really restricted my stamina, so I’ve arranged my work schedule for breaks every 15 – 20 minutes. I’m not getting as much done as usual, but I am getting things done.

I laughed at myself last week when I finished my part of the housework on Thursday. Friday is our usual cleaning day, so I had to start over the next day. However I did feel a sense of accomplishment for completing my share.

I digress… I’ve been cleaning out drawers and cupboards since that’s a job that can be easily divided into several small tasks. I can also leave it for several days if I need to.

I realized that I have about every machine made to seal packages for freezing or storing and I had decided to give them all to Treasure Chest, our local thrift store.

  • Why would I give them all away? Because I don’t use them!
  • Did I quit buying in bulk and repackaging? Certainly not!
  • All the new methods were frustrating.
  • They all seemed to unseal after just a short time, and freezer burn was always the result.
  • Or if I was sealing something that I would open and use part of, I had to take out a machine to reseal it.
  • But…after trying every new method, I’ve gone back to freezer paper and masking tape.

Freezer paper and masking tape? You might question my sanity to do something so old fashioned, but it works. I grew up with subsistence farming before is was faddish. It  was just a way of making life work.

I decided to check out how freezer paper kept things. We had venison in the freezer from a year ago, so I checked it and it was still in good shape – no freezer burn.

So, I pulled out all the gadgets I had for sealing packages and boxed them up for the thrift store

And replaced them with freezer paper and masking tape and a permanent marker.

  • Both are available at most grocery stores or Walmart.
  • They are relatively inexpensive.
  • They take up a lot less space than any of the machines I got rid of.

I did keep my stash of zipper bags but I don’t use them so much for freezing. I use sandwich ones for lunches and quart ones and snack sized ones for leftovers since they take up less space than a container when you just have a little something leftover.

If you had told me when I was still living on the farm that I would revert to the old ways I would have laughed – until I recently made this switch.

Please share with me how you package your freezer items. Does it work for you? Are you happy with it?

Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good,  and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled. Titus 2:3-5 ESV
